The Jerk Truck
Jamaican Street Food
|
Jamaican cuisine is bold, vibrant, and deeply rooted in Caribbean history and culture. It’s known for spicy marinades, smoky grilled meats, rich stews, and fresh island ingredients that reflect a mix of African, Indigenous Taino, European, and Caribbean. While Jerk Chicken is the most globally recognizable Jamaican cuisine, curry, chicken, beef patties, oxtails, and rice and peas, are still traditional favorites on the island and also served on the truck.
The Jerk Truck brings classic Jamaican-inspired comfort food to Greenville with a menu that blends traditional flavors with creative street-food twists.
Chef Lenard “Lenny” Gordon is the passionate culinary force behind The Jerk Truck, a beloved Jamaican-inspired food truck in Greenville, North Carolina. Growing up, Lenny learned the fundamentals of Caribbean cooking from his mother, Cameal, who hailed from Jamaica and filled their home with rich island flavors. Her encouragement and his early love of cooking set him on a path to formal culinary training at Johnson & Wales University, where he refined his skills and deepened his appreciation for bold, balanced seasoning.
After graduating, Lenny translated his heritage and education into a unique culinary journey — starting under festival tents and eventually building The Jerk Truck into a community favorite. His dishes celebrate the fiery heart of Jamaican street food, with signature jerk chicken, oxtails, curry plates, and other soulful Caribbean favorites that reflect both tradition and his own modern touches.
Whether he’s feeding a crowd at a local event or creating inspired plates for friends and neighbors, Chef Lenny’s philosophy centers on authentic flavor, hospitality, and cooking that feels like family
